I came to this book because I love two things: poems and Prince. Having said that, there is so much more to these poems than Prince. Love Thompson writes with such ease and the images she pens are so beautiful! I was immediately taken by the first poem, "Belonging" : It is as vital to know where you no longer belong as it is to know where you do belong, and from "Is My Love for You": Firmly rooted as that aged weeping willow seated majestically atop the hill, deep as sapphire seas immense as the Milky Way. I highly recommend this collection and look forward to reading her next.
Gin Love's poetry is lyrical and in turns ethereal and visceral, cosmic and erotic. The book is at once a soaring--and worthy--tribute to spirit of the man who inspired the book and a searing exorcism of the psychic remnants of the (different) man who injured the heart of the book's author. It is a journey through a human heart, and a good heart at that. She has invited us in to that heart and she guides us through our tour. It is definitely a journey worth taking.
This was simply majestic. I found myself lost in each poem. These words soothe sadness yet beautifully acknowledge a cross that we will all one day have to bear...death.
Not since Linda Goodman's poetry book has a collection made me feel so much - and truthfully, this book is more relatable because it's, "real talk" dressed up in the silk of poetry. You can tell the author is steadfast in her learned convictions but she really learned everything the hard way. She is poignant and well spoken while respecting the measure and verse and a lot of the poems are truly meditative. If you haven't read this yet, you absolutely should! A poetry book of this magnitude will stick around for quite some time!
As I read Ginns words I was drawn to the depth of every part of the soulful journey in this book. I was captivated, comforted ,uplifted, inspired in feeling , I related deeply to every word.
